SUMMARY:Clean Boats\, Clean Waters Amidst the Pandemic: A Lake Organizations & COVID-19 Webinar
DESCRIPTION:While Wisconsin continues to reopen from the COVID-19 pandemic closures\, lake organizations wishing to do boat landing monitoring and inspections for aquatic invasive species on watercraft face a patchwork of federal\, state\, county\, and local guidelines on how monitoring programs will move forward in the summer of 2020 and what the requirements and rules are for individual landings. \nIn the latest of a series of webinars on lake organizations and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic\, we’ll take a deep look at the shape of the Clean Boats\, Clean Waters program this summer. We’ll learn the current status of the Dept of Natural Resources and its progress towards reopening in general\, as well as hear from CBCW program staff from both WDNR and UW-Extension Lakes. Topics likely to be covered include: \n\nDifferent approaches to monitors by the overseers of DNR\, local\, and national forest boat landings\nThe timeline and protocols recommended for organziations who choose to move forward with their CBCW programs\nInformation on how all of this impacts an organization’s CBCW grant\n\nJoin hosts Mike Engleson (Wisconsin Lakes) and Eric Olson (UW-Extension Lakes Program) and scheduled guests Erin Macfarlane (UW-Extension Lakes Program)\, Alex Delvoye (WDNR\, CBCW grants) and Tim Asplund (WDNR) as we take stock of AIS boat landing monitoring and inspections in the summer of COVID-19. \n\n\n\nThis webinar has limited seating but will also be streamed live and recorded on Wisconsin Lakes’ YouTube channel. Written questions and answers will be taken – questions about an individual organizations CBCW or other DNR grant may not be able to be answered on this webinar.

SUMMARY:Wisconsin Lakes & Rivers Convention ONLINE
DESCRIPTION:The WI Lakes & Rivers Convention is Now an ONLINE event\nResilience implies being able to maintain form and function despite disturbance. Your 2020 Convention is greatly impacted by the coronavirus and the associated public health protocols. We are not going to be able to meet in person. We are instead developing a method to follow the same agenda in an online format. Those who originally registered for the in-person convention will be “entered” as participants of the new online format. New registrants can REGISTER NOW for a nominal fee. All those who are registered for this online learning event will receive log-in information for their sessions by email the week of the event. \n\nCLICK HERE FOR UPDATES AND FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.\n\n\n\nThis year’s Convention logo combines the familiar “infinity” loop with the adaptive cycle common to many social and ecological systems. The spring transitioning to summer represents a period of growth and resource accumulation\, transitioning to maturation and loss (fall)\, senescence (winter)\, and then back to rebirth (spring).\n\nEach and every spring since the 1980s\, water advocates\, scientists\, managers\, and educators have gathered for our annual convention. It is another sort of rebirth\, a testament to the resilience of individual people and our collective partnership that works so hard to care for lakes. In 2020\, we are proud to be broadening our effort to include river stakeholders\, and we continue to embrace a full watershed approach to caring for rivers\, lakes\, and streams. Leaders from Extension\, the Department of Natural Resources\, Wisconsin Lakes\, and many local partners have put tremendous time and effort into creating this year’s program. We are excited to test out this online approach for 2020. We of course look forward to seeing you all in person as soon as possible! \n\n\nWe always seek to keep enough of the familiar threads to give our gathering an identity while weaving in new strands to keep things interesting. This year\, we’ll be looking back at the Year of Clean Drinking Water and the work of the Speaker’s Water Quality Task Force. We will also be dedicating a stream of presentations to climate change impacts and how we can address them in Wisconsin.
