NO LEGISLATION ON WAKE SPORTS EXPECTED THIS SESSION
March 29, 2026 | Wakesports
Wisconsin Lakes sincerely thanks everyone who reached out to their legislators to share their opinion on the competing wake sports bills. Your voices truly made a difference!
What Happened: On Thursday, February 19, Assembly Bill 1033 — the pro-wake sport, pro-industry bill — was amended to include provisions establishing Sandhill crane hunting permits (see HERE). The amended bill was then brought to a vote and passed in the Assembly.
While the Assembly was amending and voting on AB1033, the Senate Committee on Transportation and Local Government was holding a public hearing on Senate Bill 1024 (good bill) and Senate Bill 1025 (bad bill).

When the committee chair was asked about the impact of the amended passage of AB 1033, he stated that the action effectively ends further consideration of wake sport legislation this session, as there is no time remaining to address the changes.
What’s Next: Wisconsin Lakes and the Coalition to Protect Wisconsin Lakes & Rivers will remain actively engaged for the remainder of the legislative session and will keep members informed of any developments.
As your legislative districts move into elections this fall, we encourage you to share your views on enhanced-wake recreation with your local candidates. Together, we will continue advocating for reasonable wake sport regulations built on the four pillars endorsed by our coalition of more than 90 organizations.
