No Wake Bill Hearing Tomorrow (Aug 26, 2025)
With no bill introduced by noon on Monday, a hearing will not take place tomorrow as speculated. But stay vigilant – a bill could still come at any time
By Wisconsin Lakes staff
In part because of your vocal opposition, no wakesports industry bill was released by noon today, Monday, August 25, meaning there will be no public hearing on the issue tomorrow, as previously speculated. On Friday, Wisconsin Lakes reported suspicion that a bill would be released today with a hearing to quickly follow on Tuesday.
For the bill to have been heard at tomorrow’s Assembly Forestry, Parks, and Outdoor Recreation committee meeting, the bill and hearing notice would have had to go out before noon to meet the twenty-four hour notice requirement.
WILL THERE BE AN INDUSTRY BILL?
That we do not know, but we believe it remains likely to happen at some point.
A bill could still drop as early as today or tomorrow, and, as mentioned, a hearing could be held at any point twenty-four hours later. We need to remain vigilant and continue to let our legislators know what we won’t support (and what we would) in a wakesports management bill.
THANK YOU! YOU ARE ONE REASON THERE IS NO BILL YET TODAY
The quick action on the part of many of you certainly helped remind legislators that Wisconsinites overwhelmingly demand meaningful standards that will reduce negative impacts to our lakes and shores from enhanced wakes, while preserving local authority to pass ordinances stronger than the state’s standards. Your emails and calls over the weekend helped pressure legislators to take a step back for hastily trying to push through an unpopular bill.
Thank you for your efforts, and keep up the good work!
Wisconsin Lakes continues to monitor the legislature for any wake related bills and will let you know as soon as possible if we learn action is imminent!
